ROCKVILLE, MD – The American Association of Colleges of Podiatric Medicine (AACPM) and its member institutions are grateful for the additional support and vote of confidence received for its critical “Feet on the Street” Student Recruitment Initiative. In addition to the six original organizational supporters, the Association is pleased to announce that the Bako Medical Education Foundation (BMEF) has committed significant funding to “Feet on the Street”: The Foundation has recognized the importance of exposing the depth and breadth of what a podiatric medical career offers to undergraduate prehealth students throughout the country.

Launched September 1, 2023, “Feet on the Street” creates purposeful engagement opportunities for undergraduate advisors, undergraduate students, DPM faculty, and local DPMs to visit 220 colleges across the country. A key component of the initiative is having the mentoring/shadowing local DPM present at the presentations and events. Appropriate website content, www.explorepodmed.org, social media interface (YouTube Shorts, TikTok and Instagram), and continued podcasts (www.deanschat.com) and blogs will supplement these visits. AACPM looks forward to collaborating with our member colleges, residency programs and local podiatric physicians to bring a career in podiatric medicine to the next generation of podiatric physicians. “BMEF is pleased to provide this grant to AACPM,” said Steven J. Berlin, DPM, FACFAS, a board member and Grants Committee chair of BMEF. “The Feet on the Street initiative is an important step toward bolstering the podiatric profession. We are honored to contribute toward this significant endeavor.”
